About

OUR HISTORY

Tasmanian Mountain Guides (TMG) is a Tasmanian based company ABN: 86177412751. Our aim is to develop in our clients, an appreciation for the Tasmanian wilderness, by providing a safe but challenging environmentally aware experience regardless of season.

During a work related trip in 1998, the founder, Matthew Bouillaut DSC climbed Cradle Mountain.  That’s when the idea for TMG was born.  Matthew moved to Tasmania in 2012 after 20 years with the SAS.

TMG specialise in both single and multi day remote area trekking. The company offers a full range of options depending on individual needs, experience and fitness levels. From the gentle lightweight walk, to the hard-core ascents for those who are pressed for time. TMG operate in both the well know and lesser-known areas of Tasmania.

Based in Launceston, TMG is committed to providing clients with the necessary knowledge before the undertaking of any activity in the Tasmanian Wilderness. Every trek begins with a full day of introductory lectures so clients get the best possible foundation, both physically and mentally prior to any trek.

TMG believes the best way to achieve a positive wilderness experience is to keep group sizes to a minimum. This approach not only maximizes the client guide ratio, but also minimizes the environmental impact, which is a key consideration for the company. Additionally, TMG believes carrying your own equipment and supplies is the only way to experience the full potential of a remote area trek in the Tasmanian wilderness. All TMG treks are conducted without resupply.

TMG is an accredited licensed operator through Parks and Wildlife. An Australian accredited tourism business, TMG is also a Rainbow Tasmania accredited company.
